‘Poets Against War!’
is still seeking poets from the local Middle Eastern community (especially women) to read their anti-war poetry, Wed, August 30, pm, 7pm the Casa del Popolo ( 4873 boul St-Laurent).

This will be a multi-ethnic, fundraising poetry/music event to raise money for the Sanayeh Relief Centre in Beirut. Co-sponsored by Tadamon! Montreal.

More than a dozen local poets – Lebanese, Iraqi, Afghani, Palestinian, Moroccan, Syrian, Egyptian, Iranian, English, French, Jewish – will read/perform in the language of their choice, with or without live music that they might provide. Each poet will have 6 minutes on stage.

Poets confirmed so far: Fortner Anderson, Meissoon Azzaria, Salah Benlabed, Hisham Elsalfiti, Hassan el-Hadi, Ehab Lotayef, Génviève Letarte, Danièle Ouanès, Yasser Shoukry, Vince Tinguely.

‘Poets Against War!’ is a response of concerned poets in Montréal to the war crimes being committed against the people of Lebanon, the war against Palestinians, the critical situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the ongoing wars being waged against people around the world. It is also an occasion to condemn Canada’s complicity in these acts of aggression. Through our poetry, we denounce the concept of war as a solution to any conflict.

This is an all-volunteer event.

Levana
