On 27 May 2006, CUPE Ontario passed an historic resolution in support of the global campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israeli apartheid. The full text and background to the resolution can be found at: www.ontario.cupe.ca/www/background_on_resolution_50.

The CUPE Ontario resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority of the over 900 delegates at its annual convention. It has been widely supported by labor movement activists both in Canada and overseas. Indeed, the president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Willie Madisha, wrote a powerful letter to CUPE Ontario immediately after the resolution expressing his support and encouragement.

Despite a campaign of intimidation launched by pro-apartheid organizations and individuals against CUPE Ontario – including death threats against CUPE Ontario members and their families – the union has stood firm.
