Celebrated Palestinian hip-hop artist Shadia Mansour is traveling from London, U.K. to join the Suoni Per Il Popolo festival in 2011 for a performance and workshop. On Wednesday, June 8th, Shadia will speak to Montrealers at La Sala Rossa on the critical role of culture and the arts in the ongoing Palestinian struggle for freedom and against Israeli military occupation. As an artist, Shadia will focus on the growing role of hip-hop culture in the Palestinian artistic scene and focus on the key role that Palestinian women play in projecting the Palestinian liberation struggle through song.

The workshop will also feature a preview of the upcoming documentary “Hip Hop is Bigger Than the Occupation”, a documentary about a ten day journey of artists traveling through the West Bank, Palestine, teaching and performing Non Violent Resistance. A question and answer session, along with a discussion, will follow.
