An evening of film and discussion focused on contemporary representations of Iranian sexuality and their relationship to imperialist discourses with guest speaker Sima Shakhsari (Department of Anthropology, Stanford University)
* Film: Out in Iran: Inside Iran’s Secret Gay World (CBC Documentary)
Out In Iran: Aired in September of 2007, Out in Iran is a CBC documentary that examines the underground gay community in Tehran.
* Sima Shakhsari is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. Her dissertation examines the Iranian immigrant communities in Washington D.C. and Toronto and explores the construction of sexed and gendered Iranian diasporic subjectivities vis-à-vis imaginations of homeland. Sima has worked in women’s and immigrants rights organizations in San Francisco for several years.

In the book ‘Out of Place: Interrogating Silences in Queerness/Raciality, an excellent chapter called ‘Gay Imperialism:Gender and Sexuality Discourse in the ‘War on Terror’’ was bullied out of publication by the racist Peter Tatchell.
