Des avions de guerre israéliens bombardent Beyrouth. Plus de 70 civils sont morts depuis que l’armée israélienne a lancé une offensive majeure contre le Liban mercredi le 12 juillet. Des bombes ont visé l’infrastructure civile partout au pays, incluant les autoroutes importantes et les ponts dans le sud du Liban, causant un l’arrêt de tout transport transnational. Israeli war planes are bombing Beirut. Over 50 Lebanese civilians have died since the Israeli military launched a major military offensive against Lebanon on Wednesday, July 12th. Bombs have targeted civilian infrastructure throughout the country, including key highways and bridges across southern Lebanon, effectively halting all cross-country transportation.

Cet assaut contre le Liban survient dix-neuf jours après le début d’une série d’attaques brutales contre les Palestinien(ne)s de Gaza, au cours desquelles 74 personnes ont été tuées, dont un nombre disproportionné d’enfants.

Activistes montréalais de solidarité à Beyrouth – disponibles pour entrevues concernant la crise actuelle

13 juillet 2006, Montréal/Beyrouth – Des membres du collectif Tadamon! basé à Montréal sont actuellement à Beyrouth et sont disponibles pour des entrevues concernant la crise actuelle. Depuis la mi-juin, la délégation du groupe de Montréal travaille à Beyrouth, rencontrant des organismes sociaux et culturels, participants aux campagnes populaires, coordonnant des projets de solidarité entre Montréal et Beyrouth et créant des reportages radio concernant la lutte pour la justice sociale dans le pays. Les membres de la délégation ont été choisis pour leur expérience et leur connaissance de l’actualité libanaise et régionale.

Weekly Reports on Struggles for Social & Economic Justice in LEBANON

Tadamon! a collective of media activists & community organizers from
Montreal working to build solidarity with movements for social & economic
justice in Lebanon are currently on a delegation to Lebanon and the Middle
East. As part of this delegation members of Tadamon! will be producing
weekly 30 minutes audio reports for individual download, podcast &
broadcast on upwards of 20 campus / community radio stations in Canada.

Tadamon!’s weekly audio reports will focus on the present day cultural,
social and political realities in the Middle East from a perspective of
social justice. Radio Tadamon!’s reports will be produced on a weekly
basis and will be regularly uploaded from the Middle East each THURSDAY
for broadcast, download & podcast internationally throughout July &
August.

Charbel Rouhana blends political awareness, traditional Arabic music and
compositional experimentation

BEIRUT: Somehow Lebanon’s electric political climate always seems to provide
fertile ground for innovative artistic expression. Such expression may be
rooted in the country’s rich cultural history, but on occasion, it also offers
important insight into the present challenges facing Lebanon (and by extension
the region at large).

Over the past nine years, Charbel Rouhana has become a fixture on the local
music scene. A rising star and longtime “special guest” at the Blue Note Cafe
in Hamra, Rouhana uses song to present an inspiring voice for social change.
The celebrated oud player and contemporary composer has successfully harnessed
folkloric Lebanese traditions and combined them with present-day musical
innovation and insightful social commentary.
