To mourn the dead of Qana and everywhere in Lebanon

McGill College and Ste. Catherine
Monday, 31 July from 8pm til midnight

Sunday saw the worst attack on Lebanon in this latest string of Israeli aggression. Qana is now witness to yet another massacre.

A residential building was brought down by an Israeli bomb. 65 people lost their lives, 37 of which were children. Qana has seen such events 10 years ago at the hands of the same killers. The massacres are piling up in Lebanon and the UN has to start acting on its responsibility.

Let us all unite in the face of this tragedy; join us for a candle-light SILENT sit-in tomorrow Monday July 31st, from 8PM to 12:00 Midnight on McGill College and Ste. Catherine, to pray for our beloved ones that died in Qana and everywhere in Lebanon these past 3 weeks and to denounce this tragedy as utterly unacceptable. Please bring your humility, solidarity, some candles and Lebanese flags.

In solidarity and grief,
Imad

The new banner image at the top of the web page took me by surprise. But it is absolutely appropriate. In the contrast of the ealier image and this one, you have captured something of the various levels of shattering that Beirutis, Lebanese, Arabs have experienced in July 2006 at the hands of the Israeli apartheid state. Out of this, however, one can foresee or hope for an additional shattering: that of the structure of exclusion, racial oppression and nationalist paranoia upon which that state is constituted.
